Science Experiments

Here are some of our favorite science experiments and activities from when we were kids and also some experiments that we wish we knew about as kids. Most of these can be done in the home
(but ask your parents permission, first!).

Scientific American Education : Scientific American has a great webpage that suggests science experiments that you can do in your home with your parent's permission in 30 minutes or less.  They also have links to research projects that you can be a part of, gathering information about the world around you and learning the process of scientific discovery.

Camp Invention : I remember this camp fondly from my childhood--it was the first thing that I can point to that perked my interest in science and taught me things that I still regularly encounter. Camp Invention is a week-long summer day camp that teaches problem-solving and teamwork through various hands-on projects. In all of the camps, students take apart some sort of device and invent a new device. Campers learn science, math, and entrepreneurship/business concepts.

Bill Nye the Science Guy : Science Rules! Bill Nye makes some really good videos and also has some great home demos on his websites. Many of these experiments have been around for awhile and have become classic favorites of multiple generations of science students (at least since the early 1990s) .

PBS Kids Design Squad : Build cool stuff and play games. Compete with your friends to see who can build a rubber band car that travels the farthest or moves the fastest. Also, get your parents to check out this site, which lists some pretty cool experiments and activities that need a little more parent involvement (be sure to ask your parent's permission before performing any experiment, no matter the difficulty!).
