Cool Websites to Learn and Play

What if? XKCD : On this site, hypothetical physics are raised and answered, illustrated with crazy comics.

Joanne Loves Science : This site has some really good book recommendations and descriptions of different things. She has a section on gummi bear science and destroys a gummy bear with just sound. She also has some very good science video links and talks about all the science in makeup.

NASA Kids Club : NASA is great! They have games that teach you about science and space. They also have some great videos. It is truly out of this world! It is amazing all the things we use today that have come from the space program.

Wolfram Alpha : What doesn't Wolfram Alpha know? You can type in almost anything and you find information. For example, type in "satellites overhead." You should see a map of all visible satellites overhead. You can also use it to learn new math and physics concepts. It has a sense of humor (try typing in "To be or not to be" and it will begin to quote Shakespeare). You can use it to track meteor showers and learn about weather. Learn how other people and animals see by typing "red-green color blindness to image of a traffic light"  or "apply dog vision to image of a mountain tapir" in the search box.

Kidipede: Science for Kids : This site has descriptions of different concepts from science, math, and history. It offers very clear explanations.

The Periodic Table of Videos : This site has great videos talking about all of the known elements. They also have videos about other parts of chemistry.

The Engineer Guy : Bill talks about the stuff that's in the things you use every day. He takes apart a hard drive, shows us the guts of a computer monitor, blows up a light bulb, shows how a transistor works, and demonstrates the concepts used in fiber optic cables. This is all done in an approachable manner.

Laying the Groundwork : Scientists are people, too. This site offers video interviews of accomplished and famous scientists talking about things as human as their most embarrassing moments, fear, career path, challenges, diversity and discrimination, and family.

Tiny Tech Radio Series : This site talks about how different technologies work. Some of the technologies discussed include solar panels, batteries, OLEDs, and nanotechnology.

Sylvia's Super-Awesome Maker Show : Sylvia is a 12 year old girl who loves to build stuff. Her website has great demos on how to build things and some of the science behind them.
